CREATE Your Best Life!

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”   - Confucius

shutterstock_woman-yoga.jpgDo you wake up feeling happy and ready for the new day?  Do you look forward to going to work?  When you think about your life, does a smile come to your face?

Most people answer these questions with a resounding, “NO!”  Perhaps you are among the lucky few who are truly happy.  No matter how you answered these questions, you can create an even better life than the one you are currently living with very little effort.

No matter how successful you are, there is always one area that can use some attention.  After all, why live at a “Level 8” when you can be living at a “Level 10”?

I have worked with people from all walks of life and financial situations, from deeply in debt to those creating Fortune 500 Companies, and the one thing I have found to be a common factor is no matter what the goal, it is easy to achieve when the goal is broken down into small baby-steps, and the individual shoots towards achieving the minimum each day/week rather than focusing on the maximum.

Most people think that doing more is better, but that is not always the case.  Burnout comes much more quickly as do feelings of overwhelm when trying to do too much too soon.  Even if you only do the minimum amount, you are still moving forward.  A small amount of action taken daily will add up to an enormous amount of action at the end of a week, a month, a year, et cetera.  Not only is progress consistent, enthusiasm and excitement prevail which results in more action.  Success breeds success!

If you focus on doing an activity for 15 minutes per day, it does not seem like that much time, and it is easy to make room in your schedule for such a “short” period of time.  However, 15 minutes a day is equal to 1 hour and 45 minutes per week, 7 hours per month and 84 hours per year.  What could you accomplish in 84 hours?  Quite a bit, I am sure!  Imagine if you allotted 20+ minutes of time for some activity on a daily basis.

What typically happens when people schedule 15 minutes to work on something is they end up “finding” more time, and, because there is no “pressure” or feelings of “should” to work longer, they do so simply because they are enjoying themselves.  It is amazing what happens when people do something because they want to and not because they “have to”!

Have you ever thought about writing a book?  Just focus on writing 1 page a day.  Perhaps you want to start exercising or run a marathon.  Think of running in terms of minutes – not miles.  Try running for 6 minutes and walking 2 minutes, and build up from there.  Maybe you want to become healthier.  Forget what you have to “give up” and start adding things to your life: water, vitamins, fruits, vegetables, more sleep, 10 minutes of exercise a few days per week.  Throw away your scale, and monitor yourself by how you feel.  Do you want to compose music?  Write a verse a day.  See how easy this is?  Think “BABY STEPS”…

Now that you realize how simple it is to make your BIG dreams come true, it is time to take action!

Here is what I recommend:

  • Identify your BIG dream(s)
  • Prioritize what you want to achieve
  • Break down your Number 1 desire into action steps
  • Begin by scheduling your goal into your Daily / Weekly planner for 10 minutes / 1-2 times per week
  • Every two (2) weeks, evaluate how things are working and adjust accordingly

Have fun, and remember to enjoy the journey!
